  • Social networking sites can be mined for info to phish.
  • Identity theft. Stealing your personal information like SS# and D.O.B to take out credit in your name.
  • Spam, Junk Email that you didn't ask for. Often the email fraud on this page is sent out as SPAM 90% of all email is spam.
  • Phishing, Tricking yo into turning over personal info so your identity can be stolen.
  • Hoaxes, A lie that wastes time. OSWEGO
  • Spoofing, Faking an email address so it looks like it came from someone else
  • Viruses, Programs which damage your machine, or steal information from you.
  • Chain Letters. pass this on or you will have bad luck. could have virus in it or just be a hoax.
  • Fraud - Lying to steal from you. misrepresenting the truth.
  • Pyramid Schemes, You send me money, pass this email and others will send money to your. illegal
  • Nigerian Bank Scams,
  • Spear Phishing, Targeting someone directly for identity theft. Finding out about your personal life. or friend or business and phishing for info.
  • Bot Nets, Also called Zombie Robot computer. Spam is often sent by unsuspecting people who have their computer controlled remotely after having a virus infect their machine. Keep your virus program up to date. Botnets are millions of computers strong.
  • Pay In Advance Schemes, You send me some money for fees and I will send you a big check or something worth more than you sent me.
  • Overpayment Schemes I sent you too much money (in a fake check) you send it back to me. Usually done before the check clears.
Summarizing Strategies: Students have to make a phishing or scam email and send it to the teacher.
